FAQ

How to swap tags:
When swapping tags at the DMV, both buyer and seller have to make sure they are prepared. If you don’t have everything required, the DMV will send you home.

Buyers responsibilities:

  1. Buyer is responsible for all transfer fees, usually about $120
  2. Must have title to vehicle. If there is a lien on the vehicle or if the vehicle is leased, you need to go to the DMV and ask for the required form that needs to be completed and given to the lien holder to release the title to the DMV. This process can be time consuming so please request this promptly after purchase.
  3. Current insurance card for vehicle
  4. Current Drivers License
  5. Current mileage for vehicle
  6. Check or cash for all transfer fees
  7. License plate that you will be swapping for the new tag

Sellers responsibilities:

  1. Must have title to vehicle. If there is a lien on the vehicle or if the vehicle is leased, you need to go to the DMV and ask for the required form that needs to be completed and given to the lien holder to release the title to the DMV. This process can be time consuming so please request this promptly after purchase.
  2. Current insurance card for vehicle
  3. Current Drivers License
  4. Current mileage for vehicle
  5. License plate that you are selling

For vehicles with liens or leases, please stay on top of lien holder and DMV. This is not a top priority for the lien holder so the more you call and be persistent the quicker it will get done. If you are not persistent, this can sometimes take over a month. The DMV will send out a post card once they receive the title.

When listing your tags for sale please be sure to check the average sales. Try to keep your pricing within those ranges and you will have a lot more success selling when you set reasonable prices.
